Project Work
We worked with the project team to undertake a detailed review of the external communication tools and methods, and review the anticipated improvements in understanding farmers’ preferred method for receiving information from the Department, as well as the annual staff cost associated with each of the communication tools.
The team looked closely at the communication habits and preferences of farmers, using tools such as a survey, and a SIPOC (Suppliers, Inputs, Process, Outputs, Customers) analysis. A total of 18 measures were evaluated, and the goal was to reach an 85% confidence level with the survey.
Outcomes
The department expects to save almost $41,000 per year as a result of moving to largely electronic communication with producers. The survey showed, with a 99% confidence level, that 75% of respondents were willing to follow the department on social media. Stakeholders were also very receptive to email communication. The department achieved its goal of improving communication efficiency by at least 55%.
